How to use Facebook without the feed
Almost nobody opens Facebook to scroll. They open it for a message, a group, an event or something on Marketplace, and the feed collects the next half hour on the way past. Facebook offers more ways to reorganize that than people realize, and one of them is described in its own help pages as temporary. Here is what each control does, checked in August 2026.
Facebook is several feeds wearing one app
The tab you land on is Home, and it is the ranked one: friends, Pages you follow, suggested posts and reels, mixed together.
Feeds is a different tab. Facebook describes it as showing the most recent content posted by the people, Favorites, Pages and groups you follow, newest first, with filters for Favorites, Friends, Groups and Pages.
Reels is its own surface, and it has quietly absorbed the video section. Facebook's help pages now state that all videos except Stories and live videos are shared as reels, in a mix of short and long formats.
Then there are the parts that are not feeds at all: messages, groups, events, Marketplace, notifications and profiles. Those are destinations. You go, you do the thing, you leave.

The Feeds tab
On a computer, Facebook's own instructions are: from your Home Feed, click Feeds in the left menu, and if you do not see Feeds, click See More. On the phone the entry point moves between versions, so look under the menu rather than trusting a screenshot from two years ago.
This is the most useful thing Facebook offers here. Favorites in particular is worth ten minutes of setup, because it turns a ranked feed into a short list of the people you actually meant to keep up with.
Most Recent, and the word Facebook uses for it
You can order the feed by when things were posted. Facebook's help page says you can temporarily make Feed show posts in the order they were posted. Temporarily is doing a lot of work in that sentence. It is a filter you apply, not a preference that survives.
Content preferences
Under Settings and Privacy, then Settings, then Content preferences, Facebook gathers several controls in one place: Favorites, to push specific people and Pages higher; Unfollow, to stop seeing someone without unfriending them; Snooze, which hides everything from a person, Page or group for 30 days while you stay connected; Reconnect, to undo an unfollow; and separate dials for political and sensitive content.
Unfollow is the underrated one. You can unfollow everybody and keep every friend, and the feed thins out dramatically. It is tedious. It also works, and it is free.
Not interested, and the reels controls
The three-dot menu on a post gives you a way to see fewer posts like it. On a reel, the same menu offers Interested and Not Interested. Both are signals into ranking. Neither removes a surface.
What snowscroll leaves out
snowscroll opens Facebook's website in a browser on your iPhone with the feed and the reels surface switched off. Messages, groups, events, Marketplace, notifications on the site and profiles all stay, because those are the reasons anyone still has the app installed.
There is no ordering to reapply and no snooze to renew. The endless part is not drawn, and if you want it back it is one tap. Nothing is installed into Facebook and no setting on your account changes. Removing the ranked home feed is part of Pro, which starts as a seven day trial with no card up front.
The browser caveats for Facebook
- Push notifications are not supported yet.
- Voice and video calling are not available. Use the native app for calls.
- Some media inside messages, and some posting options, are limited.
- The site is slower than the app.

Who should not bother
If you run a Page, sell on Marketplace at any volume, or moderate a group, stay in the app. Those workflows depend on features that are thinner on the web, and you will resent it inside a week. If messaging is the only reason you ever open Facebook, the standalone Messenger app already solves your problem and costs nothing. And if unfollowing everyone and setting up Favorites gets your feed quiet enough, that is a complete answer, and we are happy to be the page that told you so.

What is the difference between Home and the Feeds tab?

Does Most Recent stay selected on Facebook?
Facebook's help page describes it as a way to temporarily make Feed show posts in the order they were posted. If you want something that persists, Favorites and unfollowing are the durable options.
Do Marketplace, groups and events work in snowscroll?
Yes. None of them are feeds, so none of them are affected. Messages, notifications on the site and profiles work too. Voice and video calling do not.
Are Facebook reels removed as well?
Yes, the reels surface is part of what gets switched off. That matters more than it used to, because Facebook's own help now says all videos except Stories and live videos are shared as reels.
How long does snoozing someone on Facebook last?
30 days, per Facebook's help pages, and you stay friends with or continue following them the whole time. After that their posts return unless you snooze again or unfollow.
